Implantable Wireless Glucose Sensor with 500 Day Life

U.C.S.D. and GlySens Inc. are developing an implantable glucose sensor which continuously monitors tissue glucose.  The sensor utilizes the glucose oxidase enzyme to produce a chemical reaction in which the oxygen consumed correlates to the glucose level.  The sensor is currently in animal testing, however human trials are expected to begin in a few months.  The device could revolutionize real-time insulin delivery and Type II medication delivery.   Check out the links below for more details.
